Frequently Asked Questions

I'm new to camping. What should I know?

That is a great question and here is great video on the 5 Golden Rules of Camping Courtesy!! If you are new or newer to camping we highly recommend giving this video a watch, don't forget to check out the comments section for even more insights! Mostly it's about respecting fellow campers, the campground staff and the grounds. Leave it as good or better than you found it. Be honest with the amount of guests and pets when you book a site. Respect the rules of the campground. Every campground has different rules and by making a reservation you have agreed to abide by them. Keep the music low, the language clean and enjoy some nature therapy.

How high are the river levels this time of year?

You can check the Medina lake and river levels on this site. You can also check our Facebook feed for our most recent images. We try to post recent photos on our Google page as well.

Do you have any sites open for "..." weekend?

You can find an up-to-date calendar on Campspot by clicking here. Feel free to see what we have available. There is no commitment until you complete your reservation.

What is there to do in Bandera?

Bandera has some great restaurants, shopping, a museum and a cowboy culture all its own. You can also check out the weekly entertainment guide for other activities going on in Bandera. We highly recommend hiking in the Texas state natural area, and shopping in Bandera. Of course there are plenty of places to ride horses as well, so check out some of the local dude ranches. The flying L ranch is just a short drive and offers golfing and a restaurant & often entertainment as well.

Do you allow same day bookings?

Please check here for available sites on Campspot. We do have a 24 hour in advance booking window, to allow us to get ready for your arrival, so If you can not book the site you are interested in on line, that may be why. Please give us a call at: (361) 834-4637 if you are needing a site last minute, and hopefully we can get you booked.

Do the tent sites have power & water?

Our tent sites are primitive and do not have power or water at the site.  We offer a communal kitchen area for the riverside sites with outlets, USB plug-ins, a sink with running water (cold only) and table. For our campers up top there is water in the bathhouse and a wash station next to the bathhouse with a small sink and an outlet. We do not allow extension cords to be ran to the campsites so bring your battery or solar powered fans, or propane heaters!

Do you rent kayaks?

Yes, however whether we rent them it depends on the river levels, and unfoutunately the river has been too low lately for kayaking! Your cabin reservation comes with two kayaks at no extra cost. We also have a canoe & 3 kayaks that can be rented for $10/hr, $20/6hrs or $35.00/day. A waiver must be signed, talk to our on-site hosts or owners when you arrive.

Do you allow day use?
Can I rent the entire property?

No, we do not allow day use. Our property private and is for the exclusive use of our overnight guests! Part of our charm is minimal humans! This is also why we have a 2 night minimum stay on all of our sites, we want folks who are here to enjoy nature, the river, and each other. We want to attract those who are here for a true camping experience.

We also do not allow visitors of guests, so keep that in mind. If you want to share your experience with your friends or family they need to book their own site, or you need to include them in your reservation.

We don't mind folks coming by to see the property, but please give us a call prior to just showing up, remember we are private property, this is our home, and we really don't appreciate people showing up unannounced. We don't want strangers wandering around our place, any more than you would like them wandering around your back yard. We want to make sure our guests are safe and our property is occupied by registered guests only.

We will consider renting the entire property for reunions weddings etc. Please give us a call at 361-834-4637 to discuss terms. Ball park figure is $ 800.00 night or 1500.00 a weekend for up to 50 guests.

Do you have WiFi or Cable?

Yes, Boulderdash has great WiFi, especially at our Cabin and RV sites. Our tent sites do not have great connectivity. If you go to the observation deck or the communal area by the boat launch you should be golden!

Cable? NOPE! You're gonna have to turn it off and bird watch or talk to your family! :)

Do you accept long term renters?

We are strictly a vacation spot, and prefer to host short term visitors. The longest term we will consider is 30 days, March through November. There is discounted rates for stays >6 days. Contact us directly to inquire about longer stays during the off season (December-Feb). We do offer a monthly rate($600.00 incl power) for those particular months only, and we enjoy our winter Texas visitors.

Are you pet friendly?

We love pets! The well behaved ones of course, and they are welcome at Boulderdash. We allow each tent and RV site to have 2 dogs at no additional cost. We also allow our cabin guests to have 2 dogs but those will cost an additional $10 each. The only site that is not pet friendly is our retro RV "Stella", sorry folks but to much work went into her! On leash or under voice command pets must be supervised at all times. The property is not fenced so please watch your fur kids. The river is fun for humans and dogs alike. If they are well behaved and listen I have no issues with them being off leash. If your pet is a barker or aggressive leave them at home! This is a fun place and your dogs must be social, neutered and get along with other dogs on the property. Do not leave dogs unattended outside and never leave dogs unattended or un-crated in the lodging! You will be charged for any and all pet damage. This should go without saying but, PICK UP YOUR DOGS POO!! Of course for an extra fee we can and have done pet sitting for guests as well, just ask, and we will do our best to keep your fido as happy as you!

Dan A.  3 days ago Great Place to Stay, I rented the Retro Camper "Stella" and enjoyed it immensely. The facilities are well kept, quiet and peaceful. Great river view, the river is low right now but still beautiful. The owners and staff are great people, friendly and helpful. They work hard to see that your stay is enjoyable. Just a few minutes from the town of Bandera you can find most anything you could want or need. I will definately be back in the future. Two Thumbs Up!!!

Bob & Laurie Coffey 5/5 a month ago on Google Called the camp ground got a hold of Carol Ann she was able to make room for us. The road to there is a little rough but was totally doable with our big rig. 36 ft Class A with toad. We were greeted by Andrea and her daughter. We were able to pull in to our spot with our tow vehicle attached. Wow what a beautiful, peaceful campground. You don’t even have to leave the campground to enjoy the wild life. Well maintained and just cute set up. There is not a bad space in this campground.Go down and walk on the river and just get lost in your thoughts! The rocks on the river has such characters . So many things can be created! There was a problem with our rig. Lyn was so gracious to let my husband use his tools and shop to fix it . Andrea, the camp host was full of information on sight seeing. Went to Lost Maples well wroth it. Hill country state park is real close also well wroth it. Just 45 minutes away from San Antonio. This campground is in our top 10 list!!!

howdy hippy 5/5 3 months ago on Google This place was wonderful! In the heart of the cowboy capital, BoulderDash is right on the Medina river. The place has magical solar lights and whimsical decor everywhere! The owners and host are the most gracious and friendly folks, who treat you like family. There is plenty to do in Bandera (dude ranch horse riding, rafting, stargazing!) Or just hang out on the various terraces and fire pits on Boulder Dash to soak in the serenity! Thanks for the awesome time! Playground: Rock painting for the young at heart!! Restrooms: They turned an old horse trailer into a full bathroom!!!! See pics. Dog-friendliness: This place is the ultimate in dog friendly! Picnic area: Picnic on the river, overlooking the river or at you private campground.
